A look into the future of the U.S. Two young men are trying to get home from the Army at a time when gasoline is near impossible to get and the electrical grid functions only an hour or two each day. There are no jobs and crime is everywhere. It could not get much worse than this.

The Collapse How it happened By John Sullins Books

I'm normally pretty stingy with my stars but, I have to give this one 4 stars. Not normal for me for such a short story.

This short read is rather well written and thought provoking. Generally characters don't leave a mark in stories this short but, the characters here are likable and memorable. And most authors are unable to successfully describe scenery in such a quick fashion as well as Mr Sullins did.

This book is quite descriptive of a plausible future.

I'd recommend this to any and all that favor post apocalyptic books. I promise no surprise zombies or aliens.

The Collapse How it happened By John Sullins Books Reviews

This was a fairly quick read, and definitely a page turner. Set in the not too far off future, it has vignettes of all sorts of situations on how things could fall apart. The author covers quite a few things that are happening now. A believable read.

Thanks!
A good showing of the world situation as it is today, and how it will likely be in the near future. The author tells the truth of the stupidity of voters and the greed of politicians, and in a story concept easy to read.
Two GIs that were just discharged trying to get home great storyline and the character development is outstanding. Surprise ending! So read and enjoy.
The book was well written and gave a scenario that is a real possibility. It is not the standard EMP or disaster novel.

The characters are a cross section of society and through the discussions they have, the story becomes real.

I highly recommend it.
This book kept me interested all the way through until the end. These two army rangers traveling across country and just trying to survive and meeting different people as they move to different locations made it interesting. Wondering what they were going to get into and their future survival and to have it end in a stupid way. If I knew this was how it was going to turn out, I would not have purchased it. Sorry, it could be worse, I could have rated it one star.
“The Collapse How it happened” was a short read that described many reasons for the collapse of the American economy in the future by having two young soldiers asking the various people they met how the economy/country collapsed. The two soldiers Keith and Jim were stationed somewhere near Birmingham Alabama and walked biked and hitched rides until they were able to get to Indianapolis. They continuously asked people why did life become so difficult or bad. Some of the responses were unrealistic, while others were realistic such as many people vote for a political party but they do not take the time to understand why they should vote for particular individuals who may have the country’s interest at heart. The ending kind of sucked, but I understand what the author meant. Things can get worse much worse than one would expect.
The premise was good, but the author forgot they were writing for adults. The author said he was not putting political views into the book, but that is not so. The conversation was stilted and unrealistic; people do use contractions and for heaven's sake find an editor. Improper use of quotes and no way to tell who said what is distracting and time consuming. Partial sentences that lead nowhere don't move the story forward. Having said this, if the book had not been a free read, I would have returned it. One star because the author took the time to write it and the other star because I don't give one star reviews. Fill the story in and get it edited.
