This fast paced book does not disappoint. It grabs you and leaves you screaming. What can be more frightening than being loved by an insane killer who has escaped her prison and now seeks her one true love..YOU ! THIS BOOK IS CHILLING AND YOU WON'T PUT IT DOWN. I TOTALLY RECOMMEND IT. ENJOY!
I became a fan of Douglas Clegg after reading the Harrow series, his take on the haunted house genre. I also love most of his other horror novels. The Halloween Man. You Come When I Call You. The Goat Dance. All excellent books.
So when I learned that he was expanding to other genres, I decided to try one.
Bad Karma, a serial killer thriller, didn't really wow me. I found the characters two-dimensional and wooden. Good and evil were clearly separated, with no shades of grey. Root for the hero and despise the villain. Okay, but it's a little cliche. It was nothing new. It was the same formula I've read in a hundred books and seen in a hundred movies.
Come on, Mr. Clegg, you can do better than that. You can push the envelope in horror. Why settle in thriller?
This book in and of itself was GREAT! I love the criminally insane aspect of it. The characters were very well written, and I quickly got to know them. The flow was good, and the plot heart-pounding. I especially loved the delusions, and how in detail they were. Really good book! I intend to read more.
The narrator was just okay, for me. Not bad, but not great, either. The tension and emotion just never seemed to be there, and it kind of pulled me out of the reverie. I feel like I would have connected more with the characters had I either read it myself or had a narrator more in tune with the book.
So, 5 for the book, 3 for narration, 4 overall.
I was looking for a good thriller and this one was. Being a huge fan of Criminal Minds, this book demonstrated just what miracles a deranged person can achieve such as knowing what's going to happen, what boat, killing easily, and never dying when they ought to and coming back. I am curious to read more about the lead guy and his working in the field of the truly criminally insane. So, I will bite again with book 2.
I could not put this down! What a crazy ride. Absolutely riveting. Definitely worth the read ,definitely worth buying the series.
If you like scary, thrilling, suspenseful, with some blood and gore thrown in, then this is the book for you! Oh my gosh! This promises to be a great series! Bad Karma is the first in the 'Criminally Insane' series - and I highly recommend for those who read this genre!
Wow I couldn't put this book down! Agnes was a crazy, smart serial killer that Mark had dealt with for years at the criminal facility. She is worse than silence of the lambs killer. Mark and his family go on vacation and Agnes decides its time to make her move. That is go get her lover, Mark. The story is magnificent it really gets into her head. You'll have to read to find out if she is able to reel Mark in. No spoilers here. And will Agnes find peace?
